The Forgotten Doll Poem

The Forgotten Doll 2015 by Darkis (Digital Image)

The digital image was created this year and I was inspired by Kelly Rae Roberts’ art. I wrote this poem when I was 12 years old. I had just come to America and didn’t know the language, thus, I felt like an outcast. I didn't realize back then the depth of these words.

The Forgotten Doll

Lonely and frustrated,

was the forgotten doll.

Nobody played or

carried her anymore.

In the lonely attic

where nobody went.

A whisper of sorrow

by the shadow was heard.

Remembering the past

was the forgotten doll.

The past,

where she was the main attraction...

...but wasn't

With life's ups and downs, at times we might have felt like the forgotten doll, lonely, frustrated or sad. Sometimes life gives us blows that we think we can't handle and that put us in a very dark place. Other times, we might be at the top of our game and then "poof" we are at the bottom of the pit, no longer on the spot light. However, unlike the forgotten doll, we have the power to pick ourselves up and get our asses out of the attic!

So remember: Like Celia Cruz said “en la vida no hay nadie solo y siempre hay alguien”, translated, it means that there’s always someone there for you and that you’re never really alone.
